Japanese carriers reduce fees for quake and tsunami victims

Each of the four carriers are taking steps to reduce fees for people affected by the quake and tsunami. At the very least, deadlines are being extended.

Softbank

Softbank Mobile is doing the following for all customers in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima, and for customers in affected areas of Aomori, Ibaraki, Naganao, Niigata, Tochigi and Chiba prefectures:
  1. One month billing extensions for February and March usage (March and April bills, respectively) for customers who pay in person at a Softbank shop.
  2. Reduced handset repair and replacement costs
  3. Providing loaner phones and chargers
Masa Son has also promised free phones and service for all children orphaned in the March 11 quake and resulting tsunami until they turn 18, regardless of their carrier. He also says he'll replace destroyed iPhones (via Serkan Toto)

Docomo

According to this press release, NTT Docomo is doing the following for people in affected areas of Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, Aomori, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Chiba, Nagano, and Niigata until May 31, 2011 at Docomo Shops thoughout Japan.
  1. Billing extensions
    • March Bill (for February usage) deadline extended until May 2, 2011
    • April Bill (for March usage) deadline extended until May 31, 2011
  2. Reduced handset repair costs
  3. Free data recovery for water damaged handsets (Regular cost of ¥5,250)
  4. Up to ¥10,500 discount on new handsets
  5. Free replacement SIMs
AU

KDDI is doing the following for people in affected areas:
  1. Payment support
    • Customers of home services such as AU Hikari will have their bill reduced during times they were forced to evacuate
    • March Bill (for February usage) deadline extended for one month
  2. Reduced handset repair costs until 4/30/2011 at selected AU Shops in affected areas
  3. Providing loaner phones and chargers
Emobile

Emobile is doing the following:
  1. April Bill (for March usage) Voice and SMS fees are capped at ¥2,000 for all customers in Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, Aomori, Ibaraki, Naganao, Niigata, Tochigi and Chiba prefectures
    • This includes the entire prefectures
    • This excludes basic service fee, packets fees, international calls, internatinal roaming, video phone fees, additional content fees, and optional services
  2. Reduced fees during the time a customer was without a handset due to loss or damage until 4/30/2011 for people in affected areas of Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, Aomori, Ibaraki, Naganao, Niigata, Tochigi and Chiba
  3. Reduced fees for home ADSL service for people in affected areas of Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, Aomori, Ibaraki, Naganao, Niigata, Tochigi and Chiba
    • Apply by 4/30/2011
    • Maximum of 2 months free (April and May bills for March and April usage, respectively).
  4. Providing loaner phones and chargers here
